The South Salem community is invited to attend a public forum regarding proposed changes to school attendance area boundaries on Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Crossler Middle School. A new elementary school is being constructed in South Salem near Madras Street on the former Battle Creek Golf Course property. The school is scheduled to open in Fall 2012. New school attendance area boundaries are needed to assign students to the new school, as well as balance enrollments and relieve overcrowding at existing schools. In addition, students currently attending Rosedale Elementary must be reassigned to one or more neighboring schools, since Rosedale is scheduled to be repurposed before the start of the next school year. At the forum, community members will view possible boundary change options and share feedback. New boundaries are scheduled to be adopted by the School Board in March 2012 for the 2012-13 school year. For questions or more information about the boundary change process, please contact any South Salem school principal or project coordinator Mike Bednarek at 503-399-3290. Funding for construction of the new school is provided by the construction bond approved by voters in 2008. Bond funds can only be used for projects associated with the 2008 bond measure and cannot be used for school operations. Thanks to the community's support of the bond, our schools are safer, healthier and less crowded learning environments for students. |
